(1 Peter 4:10) As faithful stewards of God’s grace in all its diverse expressions, we should use whatever gift of the Holy Spirit we have received from God to minister to others.

As faithful stewards, every Christian has received gifts from the Holy Spirit, which in this verse is also called “God’s grace manifested in all its diverse expressions or forms.”

The Bible is clear that when we come into a relationship with God through faith, we are born-again—the Holy Spirit (the immediate presence of God) lives within us.

We do not know how this happens, although we do know that a new experience of the presence and power of God is active within our inner life, within our hearts.

Once again, not a single believer is left out from receiving specific gifts produced by the Holy Spirit within us.

We are used to talking about someone’s natural talents; however, this verse is emphasizing the gifts of the Holy Spirit. What we think our talents are, are often really spiritual gifts.

This means some of our abilities originate from the Holy Spirit, and do not simply originate from our own personality. The more mature (experienced) we are in the Lord, the more we are aware of the specific spiritual gifts in our lives.

This is why there is a diversity of abilities (gifts) in the body of Christ, and why we must not compare ourselves with others. Other believers have God-produced abilities to do certain things that other believers aren’t able to do.

For example, I am a teacher and missionary, and I also have gifts of wisdom and discernment. These gifts function at different times in my life.

Our effectiveness in life with God occurs when we stay focused on your spiritual gifts. I know what my gifts are, and I focus my life on using my gifts. I stay focussed on what God has empowered me to do.

I encourage you to do the same.

I would encourage you to get a piece of paper and draw a line down the middle, and then title one column “primary gifts,” and title the second column “secondary gifts.”

Then sit down, think about it, write down what you think your talents/spiritual gifts are.

It is simple, what are you consistently good at in life? Do not overthink it. Often asking others what they think is helpful. What you write down might not be exact, but it is a step toward identifying your spiritual gifts from God.
