(Colossians 1:18) Jesus is the “Lord” of the church and your life.
We often think the lead pastor as the head of the church.
We think of the church as having a hierarchical organizational chart, and the lead pastor is at the top of that chart.
We think this way because we view the church as a building and an organization.
We define the church as a list of programs and events.
In the New Testament, however, the church—God’s people—is understood as a living, relational organism, not a static organization.
The biblical image of the church is a living body containing many parts (or functions/gifts), with the Holy Spirit running through its veins.
Although there are individual churches containing diverse ethnic peoples, the New Testament emphasizes that there is only one church under the Lordship of Christ.
The word “head” in Colossians 1:18 means the primary source or the fountainhead of eternal life.
Jesus is the only source of life in the church and your life.
He rules over all of reality!
Although Jesus is Lord of all, he is always present among us through the presence, power, and gifts of the Holy Spirit.
The church receives dynamic life and grows only when Jesus is worshiped and obeyed as Lord.
Let the LORD into your hearts.
Let us have ears to hear his voice.
Let Jesus be the LORD of the church and of your life.
Jesus is not only our Savior.
He is our LORD!
