(Ephesians 4:23) Be renewed in the spirit of your minds.
Too often we perceive the human mind as some kind of mechanical machine.
Especially in the so-called rational West—where reason is supposed to reign—the mind has been functionally separated from the human soul/spirit.
But in this verse, it is clear that we are called to renew, reform, and renovate the spirit of our minds. In this light, our minds are an integrated function of our spiritual inner life.
Remember, all conversions to Jesus Christ originate in the “changing” of our minds, what the Bible calls repentance.
The source of all biblical wisdom and discernment is a Spirit-filled mind.
The transformation of our character, attitudes, and morality is the consequence of the renewing of the spirit of our minds..
This is why the intellectual capacity of unbelievers—without the Holy Spirit—usually is void of objective ethics. Some of the most educated humans—steeped in material secularism—are some of the most morally depraved people.
The ability for Christians to truly think holistically (a biblical worldview) is empowered by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. What I call the Spirit-filled mind.
Nothing is wrong with earned degrees, I have three of them, but the fallen mind without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is reckless and self-centered.
The mind is organically connected to our hearts.
Take time today to ask God to fill your mind with his holy presence.
