(James 2:23) He was called a friend of God.
I have reflected recently on the truth that we can have an in-depth relational friendship with God.
In James 2:23, Abraham was called a “friend of God.” In 2 Chronicles 20:7, it describes Abraham as a “friend forever.” And in Isaiah 41:8, God calls Abraham “my friend.” Exodus 33:11 tells us that the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend.
The Bible passages above clearly tell us that God wants to have a relational friendship with us.
This is not mean having a religious or legal friendship with God. It means having an authentic and transparent heart relationship with God in which we can be open and honest with him, for a true friend always listens with compassion.
God’s heart is to be our friend. He desires us to approach him and speak with him as a loving friend.
Wow! Think about having such an intimate relationship with Almighty God.
In John 15:13-15, Jesus calls his disciples friends. It reads: Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.
Can your relationship with God be described as a friendship?
Are you afraid of God?
Do you think you have to be perfect and flawless in life to have a friendship with God?
Let us all begin to speak to God as our eternal friend. One who will never leave us or forsake us.
Let us all change the way we think about Jesus, approaching him as a friend who is deeply concerned with all the challenges and struggles.
Jesus wants to walk with us as our friend.
Do you?
