(Matthew 7:7–8) Keep knocking.

One of the most important Bible passages is Revelation 3:7-8, God opens doors that no one can shut, and closes doors no one can open. These verses are crucial to mature Christian living.

Why?

There are three reason: perseverance, guidance, and timing.

Perseverance: We must not quit in our Christian lives. Too often Christians give up when they hit barriers and difficulties. But we must “keep knocking.” For example, when we are looking for a job. Do you just knock on one door? No. We must “keep knocking.” We must keep throwing out the seed. We must keep knocking on every door we can. We must persevere with boldness and tenacity.

Guidance: There are some doors that God will close, and, surprisingly, God will open doors that we do not expect. This is how God guides us in life. For example, even with my experience and resume I have knocked on the doors of churches and Bible colleges/seminars. But no doors have have opened. And so I know that this is not the way God wants me to go, even when it makes sense, and it is the natural way to go. After all, I have so much experience and expertise. At other times, God has open king’s doors that I never expected to happen. This is how we know God’s guidance. This is how God leads us in our lives.

Timing: Too often we think doors should open instantly. But, they at times don’t. It is all about timing. God knows is what is best for us. However, it requires us to “keep knocking.” God sees the big picture and long-term purposes that we do not.

Do you give up easily?

Do sit back and expect what we want?

Or, do you persevere?
