(Matthew 7:7) Ask, Seek, Knock
Jesus looked at his disciples and said: Ask, Seek, and Knock.
What was Jesus talking about?
In Greek, these verbs–ask, seek, knock–are in the present action. They mean keep asking, keep seeking, and keep knocking. These are action verbs.
Jesus is not talking about a one-time action, but it is a lifestyle of pressing into God!
Jesus is not talking about a passive life of sitting back and hoping God will do something about our situation and struggles. He is talking about how we should live every day and all day.
Once again, Jesus is talking about a lifestyle of asking, seeking, and knocking. He is talking about having a lifestyle of action. He is not talking about passively sitting back and hoping God will do something for us. He is talking about having a lifestyle of that moves God’s heart.
It is all about having focus in our lives!
We must be have a desperate heart. It is about wanting more in our Christian lives than just going to church or reading our Bible. It is more than the same routine of Christian living.
Jesus is talking about keep praying that moves God’s heart. He is talking about keep seeking and you will find. He is talking about keep knocking and the door will open to you and he will come in. This is God’s promise to us.
Jesus wants us to get into the deep waters of the kingdom of God. We can’t be satisfied with a bland and average Christian life.
Too often we want God’s will for our lives as long as it is not costly, demanding, and doesn’t involve change and discipline.
We want God to fit into our lifestyle, instead of wanting to fit into God’s desire for our lives.
We must approach God—enter his presence–with a desperate heart and willingness to enter the unknown. We must give up our control. We must surrender.
If your child was lost in a park, what would you do. Would you calmly look for him or her. No, you would frantically seek for them. This is the same attitude we should have when seeking for God’s best.
God wants us to enter the deep water of his kingdom. Too often we want to get into the boat as long as it is tied to the dock. But Jesus wants us to cut the rope and row into the deep water of his will for our lives.
We can’t simply press into God requiring him to do what we want. We must press into God with a heart desire for what he wants for us.
We will never experience the depth of the kingdom of God if we don’t get into the boat and cut the rope.
Are we living a lifestyle of continually asking, seeking, and knocking, calling on God to break into our routine and static lives?
We must hound God and not be satisfied until he acts!
Are you thirsty for more, or are you simply satisfied with the normal, the routine, and the same old thing?
Let’s live a desperate Christian life for the deep waters of God’s, and stop being satisfied of wading into the shallow waters of the shoreline.
Keep asking, keep seeking, and keep knocking!
