(Philippians 1:6) God began a good work in you, and he will bring it to completion.
Some days, even weeks, we don’t feel very spiritual.
We feel like our Christian lives are a real grind—just a lot of self-effort and pushing through the day.
We have a lot of questions for God.
We do not feel like we are growing or going anywhere.
We wonder where God is.
Where is his grace?
It is during these dry spiritual times that verses like Philippians 1:6 are so encouraging and hopeful. The bottom line is this: God is working in our lives even when we do not know it.
Not only is God working in our lives; he never stops working in our lives. As the apostle Paul tells us in Philippians 2:13, “God is working in us to fulfill his good purpose.”
Even when we feel like our lives are rudderless and going nowhere, God is actively working within us and leading us toward his eternal purpose.
God knows what we need to grow spiritually.
At the center of maturing in our Christian faith it important that we persevere.
We need to keep moving forward one step at a time.
We might not feel like it, but we can put our trust in God, like Abraham. Soak into your soul Hebrews 11:8, “By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.”
We all have to live by faith, even when we do not know where God is leading us.
We must exercise our faith and trust God day by day.
We must not over think things.
Our future is in God’s hands.
We must trust that he is working within us. Often, we need these dry times to mature in Christ.
God is working within us for our eternal good, whether we are fully aware of it or not.
We are never alone, for sometimes God is simply carrying us along.
