(Proverbs 13:20) Walk with the wise and become wise.

Proverbs 13:20 teaches a simple but powerful truth: if you walk with wise people, you will grow wise.

As the saying goes, “You become who you hang out with.”

When we share life and friendship with Christians who pursue wisdom, we grow in biblical wisdom ourselves. On the other hand, if our closest friends are foolish—unwise, undisciplined, and unconcerned with God—we will eventually reflect that same foolishness.

This is why we must be intentional about choosing friends who are walking in the same direction we are and who share the same goals and values.

The number of friends we have does not matter nearly as much as the quality of those friendships.

Our friends should be people who are striving to live the way God created us to live.

True friendship is mutually beneficial: we learn from one another, support one another, challenge one another, correct one another, and encourage each other toward spiritual growth and maturity.

This truth cannot be overstated.

Too often, we allow friendships to form without thought, wisdom, or discernment.

We end up investing time in people who may be kind, but add little or no spiritual value to our lives. This is not just about having friends in general, but friends who are actively pursuing and growing in biblical wisdom.

It is also important to recognize that friends from the past may not be the friends we need today. Some friendships were right for a season, but as our lives change, those same relationships can hold us back.

Take time to reflect on who your friends are.

Are you and your friends helping one another grow in biblical wisdom?

Choose your friends wisely.
