(Proverbs 15:14) The discerning heart.

The Bible talks a lot about the importance of discernment. It is not a marginal characteristic of biblical Christians. Discernment is an essential characteristic of mature disciples of Jesus Christ.

Discernment means sound judgment and perception, and our ability to distinguish between right and wrong. Discernment is at the center of biblical morality and ethics.

To often some Christians simply stroll through life without any “Discernment GPS” guiding them through a fallen and dark world. They are not spiritually alert.

As this Proverb emphasizes, discernment comes from the heart, not simply the head. The discerning heart is alert, watchful, and sensitive to the spiritual light and darkness that surrounds it.

The discerning heart is what generates a deep motivation and hunger to pursue knowledge, wisdom, and understanding.

The discerning heart seeks out the right way to live according to God’s truth.

The dull and sleeping heart has little desire or passion to seek out the wisdom of God.

This is what a Christian lifestyle of discernment is all about—TEST EVERYTHING. HOLD ON TO WHAT IS GOO, AND DO NOT DO EVIL.

Chew on what is good, and spit out what is bad.

It is as simple as that.

It is not complicated.

Do you go through your day discerning circumstances and people?
