(Proverbs 3:5–6) Lean not on your own understanding.
As mature Christians, we are called to trust the Lord with all our hearts.
Is this possible?
All our hearts?
We cannot fully trust the Lord in our lives unless we fully understand that our ways are not God’s ways.
We cannot fully trust the Lord unless we have fully exchanged our weaknesses for his strength.
We cannot fully trust the Lord unless we have totally surrendered our hearts to his wisdom and ways.
Trusting the Lord fully is not simply an intellectual assent or quoting a Bible passage.
Acknowledging God is not simply a mental, abstract assent that God exists or attending church each Sunday.
Trusting the Lord fully is throwing ourselves facedown before God and unloading onto him all our anxieties and self-efforts.
Trusting the Lord fully is letting go with our entire hearts, not holding anything back—each day, casting all our concerns on him.
As humans, we are limited in our understanding, especially when it comes to knowing our future.
Because of our human limitations, we must resist the great temptation to depend on our own understanding—trusting in our own ability, strength, and wisdom.
We must fully trust the Lord in all our ways—in our entire lives and at all times.
It means that we live through each day in full fellowship with him, living with a continuous consciousness of God’s presence.
Without the Holy Spirit’s presence and power active in our lives, we become surface Christians.
If we live a lifestyle of fully trusting God—not ourselves—he promises that he will make our paths straight, keeping our lives going in the right direction and not allowing us to wander off his paths for our empty hopes.
He will guide us and lead us toward the desires of our hearts, although it might not be along the exact path we would choose.
Do you live a lifestyle of fully trusting God concerning your future?
Or do you depend more on your own understanding?
Our understanding is so limited and shortsighted.
Let’s stop trusting in our own abilities and plans.
Let’s stop trying harder in our lives.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
