(Proverbs 3:7) Fear the Lord and reject evil.

Proverbs 1:7 states the motto of the book of Proverbs: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.”

The word “fear” does not mean being afraid of God, but living in humble submission to him through a lifestyle of worship and being obedient to his will above all else in life.

Fearing the Lord is a daily lifestyle of worship and obedience.

The word “fear” does not mean cowering in fear of a transcendent God or being afraid of condemnation, for in Jesus Christ there is no longer any condemnation.

God is for us; he is not against us.

Biblically, fearing the Lord is loving the Lord.

This proverb tells us that only by truly “fearing the Lord” and living under his Lordship will we reject and hate the evil of this world.

Those who do not fear the Lord will never have a clear understanding of or hatred for evil, because everything that actively resists God and his truth is evil.

In our modern world, an understanding of “evil” seems to have been lost.

We are living in a day when evil is called good, and darkness is called light.

We are living in a day of total moral and spiritual confusion and collapse.

Today, even some Christians, living in a subpar and nominal condition, are conformed to this world and are often indifferent to evil.

We either fear the Lord and hate evil, or we live for the Lord in name only and are “Christians of indifference.”

Indifference and neutrality are the plague of modern Christians.
