(Proverbs 8:17) Those who seek for God will find him.

The phrase "seek for God" stirs up the image of a religious game of hide and seek. God is hiding from us on some distant star, and we must take time to do some religious stuff in an attempt to find him.

God is so transcendent that he really has no interest in a relationship with us lowly humans.

This Proverb is not saying that.

To “seek God” is an invitation for us to pursue a direct relationship with God, and to seek his guidance, presence, and wisdom.

When we seek God, the promise is we will find him, because through grace he will reveal himself to us.

This Proverb says what James 4:8 says, “Come near to God and he will come near to you.” But God is not interested in a half-hearted “cheap relationship.” He doesn’t simply reveal himself to anyone. He reveals himself to those who seek him with a sincere heart.

As Jeremiah 29:13 says, "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

If you approach God as if he is Santa Claus, you will not experience him.

When we seek God in prayer, fasting, and through the Bible, it is a guaranteed promise that he will come close to us. He will reveal himself to us. We will experience his presence. He will speak to us.

We can’t expect God to reveal himself to us if we are passively sliding through our lives.

We must seek him with our whole hearts, with the full expectation of experiencing a relationship with him—experiencing his immediate presence in our lives.

Do you understand your Christian life as daily “seeking God?”
