(Romans 16:25) To God who is able to strengthen us.
Romans 16:25 appears at the end of the Paul’s letter to the Roman church.
It is part of a doxology—a declaration of praise to God.
Jude 1:24 expresses a similar truth: “To God who is able to keep us from falling.”
When the Bible speaks about “God’s power,” it refers to the Holy Spirit—the direct presence of God dwelling within us.
It is primarily the Holy Spirit’s supernatural power (strength) that we experience in our hearts.
Christian living is learning to lean daily on God’s power (strength), not our own.
Ephesians 3:20 summarizes this beautifully: “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.”
The Holy Spirit’s power (strength) is able to infuse into our hearts his strength.
Although we all feel spiritually weak at times, God is able to sustain us through His strengthening presence.
In 2 Corinthians 12:9, God told the apostle Paul, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power (strength) is made perfect in weakness.”
Paul’s amazing response was, “Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
Paul is emphasizing that when we are weak, we can experience God’s power and ability to strengthen us.
In our weakness, it is easy to become discouraged because we feel helpless. We often begin to complain and adopt an attitude of self-pity.
However, we must stop responding to our weakness and helplessness in a self-centered way. Instead, our first reaction should be to open our hearts to his strength and power.
We often think that we are the only one that experiences difficult times.
But, all of us do!
When you face overwhelming circumstances and feel weak, do you open your heart to God’s strength?
Or do you have an emotional pity party?
Or do you feel sorry for yourself?
God’s strength is available to you!
We all need to grow up into spiritual adults.
Let’s all start drawing on God’s grace and strength in times of our weakness.
