The Holy Spirit in Our Lives
I have been emphasizing the functions of the Holy Spirit in our Christian lives in my recent devotions. But in this devotion, I will list these “functions” of the Holy Spirit in a more concise way.
I have to include some teaching (theology) here. You will have to re-read and think through the actions of the Holy Spirit. To go deeper, you will have to read the Bible passages I give.
First of all, the Holy Spirit is not an impersonal force, or a passive, static substance, or simply a metaphysical entity. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God—the living, dynamic, and active eternal being of God into our hearts and churches.
Here is a few things that the Holy Spirit does in the world and in our lives…
(1) The Holy Spirit makes it possible for us to experience the love of God in our hearts (Romans 5:5).
(2) The Holy Spirit makes it possible for us to experience the grace (free, unearned gifts and blessings) of God in our lives
(3) The Holy Spirit makes it possible for us to experience the truth of God, for truth is not simply intellectual concepts. The Holy Spirit is the “Spirit of Truth.” (John 15:26).
(4) The Holy Spirit makes it possible for us to experience what the Bible says. What is in the Bible is not simply “intellectual truth,” but must be experienced in our hearts. After all, the Bible was produced (God-breathed or inspired) by the Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 3:16).
(5) The Holy Spirit makes it possible for us to experience the power (strength) of God in our lives (Acts 1:8).
Ultimately, the Holy Spirit makes it possible for us to experience in our lives all that Jesus Christ did objectively did in history through his death on the cross and his resurrection.
