(1 John 2:24) Make sure that what we have heard (the good news/gospel of Jesus Christ) lives in us.
The phrase “lives in us” means to abide and remain in us. It is an ongoing process.
How does this happen?
The fact is, only the Holy Spirit can internalize truth into our hearts. When the Holy Spirit lives in our hearts, he imparts truth. He makes truth alive. We just don’t fill our head with facts.
In our own effort—no matter how hard we try—we cannot internalize the truth of the Bible. We can know intellectual principles from the Bible, but only the Holy Spirit can internalize truth and empower us to live out truth in our daily lives.
The Holy Spirit dwelling in our inner lives is a transformative presence. This is why the Holy Spirit is identified as the “Spirit of truth” in John 14:17.
Jesus tells us in John 14:26 that it is the Holy Spirit who will teach us all things.
This is an amazing verse!
It is not by our own self-effort—or behavior modification—that will internalize truth within our hearts, it is the presence of God. It is the the Holy Spirit that helps us understand and live out truth.
If we are honest, there are many sermons we hear heard on Sunday that and we forget about on Monday?
The Holy Spirit makes the truth of the Bible live—come alive—in our hearts. And we all know, it is only what we experience in our hearts that we truly live out in our daily lives.
Let’s all of us open our hearts to the the presence of God.
Let’s be filled with the Holy Spirit, for this is when truth is experienced and our lives are transformed.
