(2 Corinthians 4:16) Our inner life is being renewed day by day.

When Jesus ascended into heaven and was enthroned with God, the Holy Spirit was poured out upon the world (Acts 2).

The Holy Spirit is now the presence of Jesus among us.

At a personal level, it is common for us to say that we have “received Jesus into our hearts.”

This isn’t wrong. However, it is more biblically accurate to say that we have “received the Holy Spirit into our hearts” through faith in Jesus Christ.

In other words, we are internally born again through the indwelling presence and power of the Holy Spirit.

God gives us a new heart!

Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 6:19: “Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, whom you received from God. Whoever is united with the Lord becomes one with him in the Holy Spirit.”

Paul tells us in Galatians 5:25, “We live by the Holy Spirit.”

In Ephesians 3:16–17, he writes, “I pray that out of his glorious treasures he will strengthen you with power through the Holy Spirit in your inner being.”

Because the Holy Spirit lives within us, “even if our body is wasting away, our inner life is being renewed day by day” (2 Corinthians 4:16).

Christianity becomes very static when we think somehow that the historical Jesus lives in our hearts. For it is the Holy Spirit who now is the presence of Jesus within us.

This is why our inner lives should not be static, but dynamic and alive.
