(2 Corinthians 9:6) Throw out a large amount of seed.

Using an agricultural truth, Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 9:6 how life in the kingdom of God works.

This is a practical kingdom proverb.

If we throw out (sow) abundant “seed” to others with a heart of blessing and grace, then we will be abundantly blessed by God ourselves.

We do not give, however, to get something back. 

That is simply selfishness. 

This is not a “give to get” religious scheme, because it is not the actual “seed” we give to others that matters.

What really matters is the condition of our hearts in giving.

If we give joyfully to bless others, then God will bless us.

We do not know, however, how or when God will bless us.

No, we give with a heart of blessing and grace because it is a direct reflection of God’s heart toward us.

God’s salvation in Jesus Christ was given to us entirely out of the freedom of his grace.

He did not grudgingly give us salvation.

He chose to give us salvation out of his inner character of freedom and joy.

In a sense, giving us salvation gave him eternal joy; we can even say eternal happiness.

When God freely chose to give us salvation, it cost him something. He sent Jesus Christ into the world.

When we give to others, it will cost us something.

But when we freely give as a blessing to others—not out of compulsion or guilt—we demonstrate the heart of God toward us.
