(Galatians 5:1) It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.

When we lived in unbelief and rebellion against God, we were enslaved by the power of Sin—not simply individual sins—and by demonic powers of darkness.

We were literally spiritual slaves.

But Jesus has redeemed us!

He paid for our freedom by living in perfection and dying on the cross in our place.

Jesus took upon Himself the burden of our spiritual slavery to the internal power of Sin.

Our salvation and deliverance are all about grace.

The salvation we have in Jesus Christ is about spiritual slavery and spiritual freedom.

We are either living in spiritual bondage or in spiritual freedom.

When we truly surrender our lives to the love and grace of Jesus Christ, we are set free from our spiritual bondage.

As Galatians 5:1 tells us, it is for freedom that Christ has set us free.

We were set free from our inner sinful bondage, demonic powers, and the thinking that we can live our lives without God and without serious consequences.

However, this is important: this does not mean that we are perfect or that we immediately live out of spiritual freedom all the time.

Because we are still in a fallen condition, sanctification is a process toward spiritual maturity—our internal transformation into a new creation.

When we are born again, we are saved, or delivered, from spiritual slavery.

This means that we are no longer under the absolute control of sin and Satan.

When we are born again, the Holy Spirit dwells within us through faith in Jesus Christ.

We are then able to begin growing in sanctification—that is, maturing toward living in the spiritual freedom we have received in Jesus.

With all this in mind, as Christians, we must “stand firm” in the freedom that God has given us in Jesus.

Every day, Satan and our own fallen flesh will attempt to pull us back into the old life of spiritual slavery.

We can't live a life of neutrality.

We must engage in a spiritual battle to grow in freedom through the grace and freedom of Christ.

We must not waver.

We must not compromise.

We must not allow ourselves to slip back into the old ways of thinking or into our destructive, sinful impulses.

Are you taking your spiritual freedom in Christ for granted?

Are you standing firm and strong in your spiritual freedom in Christ?

Are you allowing Satan to draw you back into spiritual slavery, or are you standing strong in the freedom that God has given us as a free gift?

Think about this.
